TRIATHLON
Ng-TAS mediation deadlocked
By Wang Meng Meng

DESPITE more than four hours of talks yesterday evening, the South-east Asia Games triathlon saga remains deadlocked.

The two parties, triathlete Gino Ng and the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS), met for mediation at the Supreme Court at 7pm.

But, in the end, no agreement was reached.

Ng was accompanied by his lawyers, Christopher Anand Daniel and Paul Ong, from Allen & Gledhill.

The TAS was represented by its secretary David Hoong and lawyer Thomas Au of Unilegal.

High-ranking officials from the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) were also present during the talks.

The mediation is set to continue today.

Last Wednesday, Ng sued the TAS for not nominating him for December's SEA Games after he had allegedly met the selection criteria.

Ng, a 35-year-old physiotherapist claimed that he had a better qualifying record than Shaun Phoon, who was nominated by the TAS for the SEA Games, which will be held in Thailand from Dec 6 to 15.

Ng, who finished fourth in the 2005 edition in the Philippines, wants the TAS to reverse its decision not to nominate him for the coming SEA Games.

The case will be heard in the High Court on Oct 26 if no agreement is reached.
